o For what it's worth, Twining's son, Nathan Twining Jr., has told investigators that the Roswell saucer crash has always been accepted as an historical fact within the Twining family, although his father never spoke about the specifics. Twining Jr. has also stated he remembered his father being enormously upset over the number of pilots lost during intercepts of UFOs. One famous example during Twining's tenure as AF Chief of Staff was the Kinross AFB case on Nov. 23, 1953, where a jet interceptor merged with a UFO on radar over Lake Superior. No trace of the F-89 or crew was ever found.
