Well, the year is advancing, summer is coming into, and I do not seem to be.  I took a wrong turn somewhere.  I ended up in Taunton here, so far I am not getting along with this.  I threw out my shoulder, broke my right foot, and hurt my back now.

I was thinking to move to Middleborough, I went to Taunton.  It's a hard energy here, not my idea of a good time.  And it's well, what's next.  In 1750 England, there was court tennis, or indoor tennis, this isn't my game.  My game is what's called Lawn Tennis or what most people know as Tennis, which came up mostly during Queen Victoria's reign in England.

In 1877, the first Championships at Wimbledon were played.

In 1880, the Newport Casino was built.

In 1881, the United States Lawn Tennis Associatio was started and the first US Open was played.

In 1887, the U.S. National Women's Singles Championships were held.

In 1891, the French Open started.

In 1905, the Australian Open started.

These 4 tournaments are called the Grand Slam, which is a term from bridge.

I am thinking about L'oeuf Chateaux.  Just as there is the Newport Casino, or more specifically, just Casino is on the floor tiles as walking in.  Chateaux I may put on the floor tiles when walking in.

Stone Villa (1833)

  • Middleton, Brooks, Bennet, Whitehouse Estate
  • Architect: Alexander McGregor, embellished by Dudley Newton and the firm of McIntosh & Alger
  • Located on Bellevue Avenue between Jones Avenue and William Street
  • Demolished: 1957

An impressive fieldstone and granite-trimmed Italianate manor house built by Newportstonemason Alexander McGregor, Stone Villa was significantly embellished by local architect Dudley Newton and by the firm of McIntosh & Alger for James Gordon Bennett, publisher of the New York and the Paris Herald.  Bennett was responsible for the installation of the gatepost owls, symbolic of the New York Herald.  The house had been a Newport landmark since the earlier days of such occupants as the Middleton family of Charleston, South Carolina, and the Brooks family of Boston.  Later still it became associated with Imperial Russia when leased by successive Russian Ambassadors as the summer legation and residence.  The estate’s final owner was William F. Whitehouse of New York from whose estate the property was acquired by developers in 1957 and demolished for the Bellevue Shopping Center.
